They are committed to people and devoted to helping others, even at a great personal sacrifice. They (we) feel guilty for considering their own needs and find it hard to say, “I have to quit for the good of my own family.” If you can read this thank a teacher. Occupations where people directly serve others are the first to be criticized. “They’re only in it for the money!” Too many think that the work should be voluntary. Teachers have to have college degrees and then Masters degrees plus continuing education. They are responsible for your children. If you can read this thank a teacher. The answer to parents, administration and now unqualified politicians, yet are criticized, ridiculed, underpaid and taken for granted. Meanwhile, a corporate paper shuffling CEO makes millions. This so clearly shows the typical nature of people who go into education. (Broad generalization, of course.) They’re not necessarily business-minded, or profit-driven, or analytical. They’re highly service-minded. n what other professions besides teaching do people get emotional, cry, and feel guilty at the prospect of making more money and being more respected in a new job? I can’t think of one! Go to the polls, and show your disgust with your vote!!!
Be cool with it!
The crying because you know it’s a tough decision. You’re leaving behind students that will lose out on a lot of opportunities. This isn’t the teacher’s fault. It’s the taxpayers and govt that don’t value these professionals. Notice this is a red state and no unions! This is what the republicans want to do in every state so they can privatize education! Wake up people and vote them out! These students are our future and deserve certified educators not someone off the street. These teachers in Oklahoma deserve better and their state should be ashamed of how they treat teachers. Sad and those children are the ones who will suffer. As long as they have OU Football, the football makes everybody happy again! OU Football and football seasons soothe the aches for a while. Mapes you are exactly right! That’s the same in Texas. That’s why I live and teach in New Jersey. I could never go back down south and teach with all the disrespect and demeaning of teachers. My heart breaks for all teachers going through this. Stay strong!
